What's on Tino's Desk?
![]() I am having trouble coming up with new things to feature here, so I thought I'd do a rundown of what's on my desk at the moment. This is more interesting with a messier desk, but you have to work with what you're given.
A larger version of the desk picture, without the numbers, is available here.
1. Cheapo Benwin flat speakers. They do not give the greatest sound, but are acceptable. They take up almost no space.
2. CompactFlash & SmartMedia card reader. For sucking all these images into the computer.
3. CD case, Windows 2000 Professional. You still need the CD all the time with Windows 2000.
4. Pile of index cards. For taking notes.
5. Happy Hacking Keyboard Lite. The smallest keyboard I could find. I bought it from them in person at Comdex.
6. ViewSonic ViewPanel VG150. 15" LCD display. Saves a lot of room, but I'd strongly recommend getting the 18-inch version if you can afford it.
7. Microsoft optical mouse. A million times better than the ones with the ball.
8. Phone Bill. From AT&T for my mobile phone; $85.17.
9. Picture of the Great Eastern. I printed this to see how well the printer would handle low-resolution images. It is quite nice. The Great Eastern laid the world's first successful transatlantic cable, and it was at the time the largest ship in the world.
10. Candle. In wooden holder thingy.
11. Badge that lets me into the office.
12. Empty water bottle. 1 liter Dasani (Coca-Cola brand 'purified' water).
13. Change jar. Contents: One Kinder Egg capsule, $7.12, £4.70, DM9,40, one New York subway token.
14. Plug adapter for Australia.
15. Plastic cup. From Taco Bell. Originally filled with Pepsi; now filled with water.
16. Glass. Approx 300 ml. From IKEA.
17. Wastebasket. 15 liters. Home Essentials brand, "made in USA for Kmart Corporation, Troy, Michigan 48084"
18. Spree candies. 170g. Sprees are hard to find these days.
19. Fuji 8MB Smart Media card.
20. Motorola Pagewriter 2000. Two-way pager that is allegedly the choice of gangsta rappers.
